Where are my glass shoes?!?

Last weekend I found the time to watch one of my favorite childhood flicks Rodgers & Hammersteins Cinderella. As i took a walk down memory lane I realized a lot of the concepts that underlie this movie can be applied to our everyday lives. Yes, even now. All to often we may find our selves playing the dreadful role of Cinderella. Bending backwards for people, forgetting your own needs for the sake of others or even being too afraid to move on, are all the signs of having the Cinderella syndrome. Unfortunatly I’ve had a few of these symptoms. Everyone comes to a point in their life where satisfying others overshadows their personal goals. Now don’t get me wrong there is nothing wrong with doing good-deeds and handing out favors left and right, but at times you have to ask yourself if you’re happy? If the answer is no, then its time to make a change. Sometimes it can feel like the more you give the more people take. My grandfather always said “People take kindness for weakness”. This saying is very true. Life is too short to allow certain people to hold you back from your own happiness, whether its your horrible boss, an old friend that constantly needs whatever you have, or even a step mother and three awful step sisters. Letting go can be the hardest thing to do, but it can be the best move for you. Moving on doesn’t always have to make for a dramatic parting scene, it can be as simple as telling those that take you for granted, that all you have to offer is Love and Prayer. So if you’ve been trying to get ahead and find that people continue to stifle you, don’t be afraid to create distance between you and that person.Slip on your glass shoes and walk away, Cinderella style. 😉

  1. Dug this, as I said in my reply to your comment. *slips on my glass slippers* It’s nice to see that someone is on the same page as I or really even further. I’m learning and this definitely helped me.

  2. Cute!!! 🙂

This is one of my favorite movies. I just wanted to thank you for sharing this with your readers. It sometimes takes something like these encouraging words for someone to take a look at themselves and realize that something is wrong. All some people need is a little nudge in the right the direction and to step out on faith in the name of Jesus. The main thing that I think someone one can take from this and apply to their lives is to learn how to say no. Do what you have to do for yourself first, and if you have any spare time left then, you can decide if you want to help whoever needs to be helped at that particular moment.

I sooo love this movie!!! Also, a good way to know when to give and when not to is to gauge your inner response first. That way when you do give – you mean it 🙂
