When Mya and I walked in the house we saw about ten guys in the living room and seven girls. In the house we heard a big noise from the basement so we knew the party led down stairs. Crystal jumped and ran down stairs to see what was broken. The way she ran I was sure that she was going to fall.
“This is what I’m talkin’ about, i’mma work up a big sweat girl. “Mya could barely finish her sentence as she ran up to the dancing section of the room and started rocking from side to side. I danced my way right to the couch on the other side of the room. I didn’t have to look at Mya to know that she was probably shaking her head in disappointment as she watched me glide my way to the couch .
Within three minutes what was an empty couch turned into a full house. When I noticed that the man next to me was basically sitting on me I decided to grab a plate to eat and take a walk outside. The kitchen was packed and hot. Everybody in there had a bead of sweat on their face. I grabbed a paper plate and two paper cups. I wasn’t hungry but I figured if I’m not going to dance I was at least going to eat. I put four hot wings on my plate some carrots and some ranch sauce. I felt someone tap me on my shoulder.
“You know you have two paper cups.”A man said as if he wanted the other.
“I know “I said to the desperate man, and grabbed him a cup since he looked so pitiful.
As I found my way out of the kitchen I saw Crystal and asked her the way outside. To my surprise she led me to a beautiful patio. The stars were out and nobody was outside, I could enjoy nature all by myself. I sat down in the white chair and began to eat. I could barely here all the noise from the party when she closed the glass sliding doors. Only a few people lingered out to the section of the house that led to the patio and they didn’t pay any attention to me. When I was done with my mini meal I no longer had a taste for the Pepsi that I had gotten. When I started looking at that big harvest moon I began to get sentimental thinking of everything that was going on in my life and I felt myself breathing hard, and without knowing I began to take out my cigarettes and lighter. I started to click my lighter on and it wouldn’t light. That’s when I heard a hard voice coming from behind me.
“Do you need a hand?”I turned around as quick as I could and saw a brown skinned tall man. He looked around 6’3. He had a semi thick mustache above his lip and I noticed he was already smoking.
No wonder I was tempted to smoke so fast. The smell probably got to my nose.
“Yeah, it doesn’t work.”I said not knowing what else to say.
He started walking over to me. All of a sudden I began wondering how long he had been standing there. It seemed like it took forever for him to take a seat. He sat down as if he had known he was going to be there for awhile. It must have been obvious that I was nervous because as he reached to light my cigarette he began laughing. I couldn’t see what was funny but I gave him a chuckle.
“What’s so funny?”I asked as I looked up at the clouds in the dark sky.
“You” He chuckled in a hard strong voice
“How?”
“You act as if I’m about to kill you or steal your purse. If it makes you feel better I can assure you that I don’t have a criminal record.”
I gave him a smile, and I loosened up my grip on my purse to show I was relaxed.
“Well I’m sorry but I don’t take well to strangers but you seem sane enough.”I only gave him eye contact when I was talking to him. I wasn’t really in the mood for conversing but his intense eye contact forced me to speak.
“Well I’m glad to hear that, so help me understand why you’re out here by yourself, and smoking to top it off.”He look directly at me as he was knocking the ashes off his cigarette.
“I’ve got a lot on my mind and I’m too tired to party so I figured I’d stay out here and think.”
“I can understand that. I’m tired myself. I personally don’t understand where people can possibly find the energy to party until dawn.” He leaned all the way back in his chair and placed both of his hands on the back of his head as he looked up in the sky. He must have felt my eyes on him because he sat up quick when I started talking.
“My friends love to party, but I could never be like them especially now that I have so much on my plate.”
“Well if you don’t mind me asking why are you here?”He said as he leaned in towards me with both of his elbows on his knees and one hand holding the other.
“My friend basically dragged me here. She thinks I should get out more.”His eyebrows rose as if he were surprised.
“Your friend wouldn’t be the lady staring at us from the window would it?”He said nodding his head in her direction.
I turned around and sure enough it was Mya looking as if she was in shock. I was actually with someone, and not just any someone, but a man. I waved at her and she waved back in disbelief. Then she gave me a smile and walked away. I’m sure she was switching those hips extra hard for the man I was talking to, but he was too busy tying his shoes.
“That’s her. She’s a mess at times.”I said trying to make conversation.
“So what’s your name?” he asked as if he had been holding that in for a while.
“Daina.”
“Daina, I never met a Daina before.”He smiled real big.
“What’s your name?”
“My name is Raymond, so Daina how old are you?”
I was a little shocked that he was being so forward but I answered anyways.
“I’m 22.How old are you?”I felt like I had the right to ask him.
“A little older. You seem more mature than your age you know that.”
“I’ve been told that a couple of times. My friends say it’s a curse.”
“I don’t think it’s a curse at all. In fact I like mature ladies. You seem like you know how to handle yourself.”
“That’s because I do.”He had to smile. When I saw his big white teeth I got goose bumps and I was hoping he didn’t notice. The temperature had dropped but I didn’t mind because all of a sudden I wanted to know more about him and what he was about. I knew I was leaving soon but I didn’t care. I wanted to be able to tell Mya I had some type of fun tonight. He began looking at his hands than he looked back up at me.
