Hollywood of Today and Hollywood of Yesterday

5,000 explosions, 3 sex scenes,4 gun fights, and a bunch of drunk men for comedy = 1 Hot movie now days. Now I may be exaggerating a bit, but hardly. It seems as though Hollywood has drastically changed throughout the years. Movies back in the day seemed to have more substance, and dare I say it, better acting. Now don’t get me wrong there are many great movies out today with great actors and plots, unfortunately they hide in the shadows of the movies that are based around the latest hot chick and explosions. They’re fun to watch but five minutes out of the theatre you can barely remember the plot. Who’s to blame for the overly priced, barely thought out projects? Overtime society has changed. Our generation today have picked up different values, dropped our morals, along with obtaining the mindset of immediate gratification. All of these factors have had a huge effect on the film industry. Values have changed in this industry. In many movies today plots are simplistic or insignificant while the main focus is action, or the lust between two people. Again fun to watch, hard to remember. It’s evident that morals are quickly disregarded by the film industry and the actors when money is flashed in their faces. Money is the reason for their mindset of instant gratification. They create films to make money as quick, fast and as easy as possible. The high technology has made it easier for the actors, because the audience can sometimes get caught up in the pretty lights and forgets about their performance. But where does that leave the audience? We get caught up in a whirlwind of thrown together drama, and action, walking out the theatre scratching our heads wondering what happened. The actors of the old Hollywood were true actors; they made the audience get caught up in the character, the emotions, and the plot. They didn’t depend on technology; talent is what won them Oscars. Many films, like A Raisin In The Sun, were shot in only three rooms, and no one would care to notice because of the superb performance of the actors. As I have stated before there are many great movies out today, but too many that are thrown together, waste money, and insult our intelligence. They make us appreciate our pioneer actors and directors. So thank you Sidney Poitier, Ruby Dee, Audrey Hepburn, Judy Garland, Vivien Leigh , James Stewart, Grace Kelly, Robert Mitchum , Charles Laughton, Alfred Hitchcock and so many more for your classics. Hollywood of today you live with great potential, just keep in mind that it’s hard for us to see the big picture when the screen is exploding in front of us.

Until my next post Stay Savvy 🙂
